Hanging and Tying Horizontal & Vertical Rebar

Lay rebar horizontally on top of rebar hangers - keeping a finger distance (about 3/8") between the rebar and foam.

Tie horizontal bars in continuous rows around the dome (see engineering for space requirements). These rows go all the way to the top.

Fold the wire up and curl it around the rebar by hand or using pliers.

When overlapping the rebar horizontally, they need to be overlapped at the proper length as specified in the engineering. Tie overlaps with wire loop ties using a "pig tailer."

This process can be started at the top or bottom. If you begin at the bottom and work your way up, bend the "foundation-to-dome" connection steel upright with the aid of a piece of pipe or a "hickey" bar, perpendicular to horizontals.

Tension in the steel should be removed so rebar will stand without excessive pulling or pushing on the dome. Tie uprights to bottom rows of horizontal bars.

Tie vertical rods onto horizontal rods. Be sure to have proper overlap at all times.

Rebar Patterns

The vertical rebar can be placed in the following patterns:

	Modified-Starburst Pattern -- This is probably the easiest and best system. Be sure to stay within engineering parameters. Spacings can be closer than specified, but cannot exceed specifications.
	Radial Pattern -- This is simple, but uses more rebar. Drop off the bars as spaces narrow. Always maintain 12 inches as maximum distance between bars, unless otherwise specified by an engineer.
	Starburst Pattern -- This pattern uses the least amount of rebar. There is more rebar cutting required with this alternative pattern.
