The
pad must be sized for the load. In this case the load is one end
of a rafter 12-feet long spaced 10-foot on center. The end pads
carry ½ of the center pads. A center pad carries the load
imposed of 12'x 10' / 2 = 60 SF. If the dead load is 5 PSF and
a live load of 20 PSF is used the total load on the pad is 25
x 60 = 1500 pounds. The pad must then be ½ of a square
foot or 6" x 12" as shown. Note: the flashing is in
place.
