School Administrators Hear David South
Dome News, summer 2001

by Freda Parker

With "A Cost-Effective Alternative to Traditional School Buildings" as his primary topic, Monolithic's President David South addressed the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) during their 3-day Dallas convention this year.

David presented information on how Monolithic Domes are constructed. He then outlined the advantages of Monolithic structures, particularly as they apply to schools: near-absolute protection from natural disasters, efficient energy use, cost-effective construction and maintenance, longevity, versatile design.

Audience questions followed, including an unusual query: What's the one weakness of a Monolithic Dome?

David replied, "Actually, the Monolithic Dome has two weaknesses: 1) It doesn't look impressive on the outside. You have to walk into the dome to be impressed, and you will be. 2) The dome has a non-conventional look. Some people worry about what their neighbors might think if they build themselves a Monolithic Dome home. But they really don't mind an unusual looking structure for a school, or church, or any other public building. They often welcome it."
