"Research, research, research -- that's what it took to find just the right spectator seating for Italy High's new multipurpose dome," says Monolithic President David B. South. "But all that research paid off."

After reviewing dozens of seating products for indoor gymnasiums, Alden Porter, Monolithic's construction manager recommended purchasing Grosfillex Sport Seats. Italy High School agreed and ordered 880 of these comfortable, polypropylene seats in black, to be mounted directly onto white concrete risers.

Grosfillex has a manufacturing history that dates back to 1927 when they made wooden kitchen items. Since 1954, this French-based company, with 1200 employees and production centers in Europe and the United States, has been designing and manufacturing plastic products for the home and for the hotel, restaurant and construction trades. Grosfillex calls their Sport Seats "High Security Seating." Its features include a double-walled back that can be either 14 or 17 inches high, a seat reinforced by internal ribbing, a compact width and depth, double-point fixing so seats can be fastened to a bracket or a riser, and drink-holder armrests available as an accessory.

Sport Seats are available for indoor and outdoor use. Indoor seating is fire-retardant treated and in the Fire-Rated M2 Class. Outdoor seating is treated for resistance to fading caused by ultra-violet sunrays and has a M4 Class, ANTI-UV rating. Standard colors for both indoor and outdoor Sport Seats include Kelly Green, Sunflower Yellow and Sky Blue, but custom colors are available for orders of 400 or more.

Monolithic's Architect Rick Crandall, who first read about Grosfillex's products two years ago, said, "Their seating is much less costly than many others we looked at, but, at the same time, it's superior in quality. They make single-piece, plastic shapes that are pretty much indestructible. And they're molded and rounded and far more comfortable."
