Monolithic Rotating Scaffold Base Keeps Dome Builders Going In Circles!

When it comes to building a Monolithic Dome -- spraying foam, setting rebar, spraying concrete, cleaning up -- being able to easily and safely move in a circle, around the dome's inside perimeter is a real advantage.

David South, Monolithic's president, says, "Workers need to be where they need to be. They need to be comfortable, safe and feel safe. Often, to do a good job, they need to be perpendicular to the dome at just the right distance from it. You can't spray from ladders because you are constantly moving around. Some scaffolding isn't good either because it's not steady enough and awkward, which makes the worker feel unsafe. Then too, some scaffolds don't turn easily, especially in smaller domes, like those built as homes."

Monolithic, recently developed by Monolithic, is simple in design, very affordable and provides a viable solution. It consists of a platform with two tires in back that rotate in a circle; two tires in front that follow the edge of the dome; and two rails, between the tires, that hold standard pipe scaffolding.

An electric gear motor and drum switch sit atop one of the front tires.

David says, "You throw the switch and go around in a circle. You pull back to reverse and you go the other way. It's absolutely simple to use and maintain. It's not likely to develop a problem that a do-it-yourselfer can't fix.

"The Monolithic Rotating Scaffold Base is adjustable," David continues. "You can put planks for various elevations on pipe scaffolding for the height you want. And you can add handrails. The length is flexible as the distance between the wheels can be shorter or longer. It's ideal for domes above 20 feet in diameter up to 75-foot in diameter . Yet it easily comes apart, goes through doorways and loads onto a pick-up or equipment trailer."

The wheel size is 15 inches. The drive motor requires 110 volts single phase. The clearance is 12 inches under the axle and 14 inches under the side rails.
