Canadian Dome Builders Greet 400 Visitors during 2004 Dome Home TourNovember 19, 2004 by Kris Garrison
Southampton, Ontario Canada is famous for its beautiful sunsets. And now, Sunny and Rebecca Cushnie share that fame due to their newly built Monolithic Dome home. One very well-written article was placed in the Toronto Star just before the 2004 Monolithic Dome Home Tour in October. It captured media attention and sent more than 400 visitors to tour the Cushnie home which sits nestled in a forested area on two and half acres near Lake Huron. The 40' dome provides the kitchen and main living area with an open design concept, two bedrooms and a laundry room. The master bedroom suite occupies the 24' dome. Sunny and Rebecca and their two small children enjoy life in their new dome home. Four-year-old daughter Willow refers to their family as The Dome People. Sunny attended the 2001 Workshop and came prepared with sketches of the Monolithic Dome of his dreams. "After learning the construction method, I threw the plans away and started over," said Cushnie. After the workshop, Cushnie worked closely with Larry Byrne in designing his dream dome. Shortly thereafter, he purchased equipment from MDI and got busy building his home. He and business partner, Collin MacLeod started Great Lakes Dome Company during 2002. Plans are developing for construction of two Monolithic domes during the summer of 2005 and the possibility of 6-8 domes in the Arctic region where energy efficiency is crucial. Related Links: |
