Cost Estimates for Simple and Professional Monolithic Dome Rinks and ArenasFebruary 23, 2004 Practice Arena
The 222 foot diameter (Triple Two) is the very best buy for a hockey rink. It is the smallest Monolithic Dome that the full size (85' x 200') rink will fit in and allow someone to walk all the way around it on the inside. It has substantial space on the sides and ends of the rink for storage, locker rooms, seating, etc. Fitted with individual seats, it will seat over 1000 spectators. Fitted with bench seats it can hold upwards of 2200. Simply expanding the size will allow more seating. When used as a pair, one rink can be for performance or competition, and the other for practice. Professional Arena
The professional arena is 320' diameter. With it there are all kinds of options. It can seat from 5000 to 8000 with 6500 as a good number for hockey or arena football and many more for concerts. A feasibility study would be needed to get firm numbers. The Monolithic Dome can be built up to 1,000' diamteter, making the sky the limit on arena use, size and seating capacity. Cost EstimatesThese prices are supplied to give interested readers a "ballpark figure" of expenses associated with building a Monolithic Dome Hockey Rink. These estimates are for construction in Texas. Costs in the northeast, west coast and the mid-north are typically higher. Estimates based on conceptual design and comparison with other similar completed projects. These estimates do not include land, site, utilities, A & E fees, and parking lot costs. Estimates calculated in January 2007.
Feasibility StudyA Feasibility Study is a preliminary study for a project comparing the Monolithic Dome Process to other building systems. The study defines the design and intent of the project and provides an estimated budget from the best available information. It also assists with preliminary plans to help with financing. The Monolithic Dome Institute offers to produce a feasibility study for assistance to MDI clients before architectural services are engaged. This study will not provide plans for construction purposes. In every case, a feasibility study is well worth the cost. Monolithic will do a feasibility study for a one time fee of $7500. The study includes a preliminary Design, Code Check, Site plan, Budget and Simple Rendering. If you would like to speak to someone regarding ice arenas, call Monolithic M-F, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
