Shopping For Insurance

A few tips to finding affordable insurance for your Monolithic Dome

By Kris Garrison

How do you find insurance for your new or existing Monolithic Dome that is affordable and offers coverage options that fits your unique needs and lifestyle?

Affordable Quotes

The best way to find an affordable policy is make several calls to as many insurance companies as you can stand and shop for a bargain. You can also receive online quotes by answering questions similar to those asked by an agent (see list below). Your chances for a better quote increase if you can find an agent who is familiar with Monolithic Dome building methods and materials.

When you call for an insurance quote, the agent will ask a myriad of questions pertaining to the home, such as the type of property, liveable square footage, and other factors. The factors that pertain to the dome are what type of exterior wall, and foundation are used in the home.

Describe the Monolithic Dome as an all masonry structure with concrete walls and roof. This description is something agents understand. If asked, the roof is industry standard polyurethane with roofing membrane.

Insurance rates are determined by 3 categories of construction:

  • Stick frame with brick veneer
  • All masonry construction less than 1 foot thick (Monolithic Domes)
  • Concrete walls - 1 foot thick

As Monolithic Dome owners receive insurance coverage they often call us and give us the company name and cost for coverage. You can find a list of current providers who aren't afraid of Monolithic Dome construction by clicking here.

When calling for a quote, be prepared to answer the following questions:

  • What is your address and zip code?
  • Will this insurance replace an existing policy?
  • What type of property?
  • Do you own or rent?
  • Do you plan on living in the home for the next 12 months?
  • Do you have a business or farm on the property?
  • What type of dogs will live on the property?
  • How much coverage?
  • Personal liability coverage?
  • Deductible?
  • Year home was built?
  • Liveable square footage of residence?
  • Type of design?
  • Proximity to water?
  • Heating type?
  • Fire station?
  • Fire hydrant?
  • Garage?
  • Exterior wall type?
  • Foundation type?
